What is trending in 2025 in the world of Talent Acquisition?

SKILLS BASED HIRING

With talent being in short supply, especially in entry-level roles, employers have turned to skills-based hiring?

What is skills-based hiring?

Skills-based hiring is when an employer focuses on the skill set that a candidate brings to the table and is less focused on prior experience or education. The idea is that if a candidate has a proven history of performing tasks at a similar skill level, then regardless of industry or time spent in a role, the candidate will be considered for the role.

Statistics

Approximately 20% of employers have adopted a skills based approach with another 20% planning their transition plans and another 40% still determining if this is the right path for their organization.

AI USAGE

In 2025, employers have been focused on incorporating AI into the recruitment process to cut costs. During this trial-and-error period, they have also discovered that AI comes with its imperfections and flaws including:

(1) making the process impersonal

(2) increasing algorithmic bias which could lead to unfair hiring practices

Employers should be focused on how AI can improve rather than subtract from the candidate experience.

How are you currently using AI to create a win-win employer-candidate relationship?

INVESTING IN YOUR EMPLOYEES

Employers are finding that employees are interested in learning and growing more than ever. This means that progressive Learning and Development programs are crucial. Additionally with the rising costs of post-secondary education, employees are looking to obtain additional education, training and certifications without incurring debt. Also, student loan repayment or forgiveness programs can play a key part in retention and recruitment programs.
